Artist Interview: LOVEMYDREW

We had the pleasure of diving into lovemydrew’s artistic flow, exploring how he balances experimentation and consistency, collaborates with others, and draws inspiration across art forms.

How do you strike a balance between maintaining a consistent aesthetic and experimenting with new styles as your career evolves?

The balance is in the experimentation. I just try to do what Bowie did throughout his career. He gave himself the freedom to do make whatever – an artist of many “eras”. He maintained consistency in trying things out better than most. Never spending too much time in one place, but also not having a problem doing so.

How do you approach collaboration with other creatives to bring your vision to life?

My collaborative approach is that of a basketball coach who is also the GM. I seek the best, most suitable players to help me win a championship. But when it’s game time, I let them do whatever seems just within the parameters of the game plan (win a championship).

Do you draw inspiration from other art forms, such as visual art, film, or literature, to shape your work? If so, how?

Yeah, for cover art ideas. I sample a lot as well. The usage of lots of found imagery in my visuals. As a child of the internet, it’s hard not to.

What are some specific goals or future projects you hope to pursue to further develop your artistic identity?

One goal would be a tour of my own or supporting someone else – whichever comes first. Agency representation would be nice. Having music that resonates will always be a goal for me. Lastly, label distribution via a label I like would be cool too.

Sampling opens up endless possibilities for experimentation, and lovemydrew’s reflections give us a refreshing look into his creative world!
